World Pharmacists Day is observed on September 25th every year all over the world. The purpose of this day is to encourage activities that promote and advocate for the role of pharmacists in improving health in every corner of the world.
This day was established by International Pharmaceutical Federation (IPF), the global federation of national associations of pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists.
In 2009 Council meeting of FIP Congress in Istanbul, Turkey, the Turkish Pharmacists Association suggested to annually celebrate World Pharmacists Day on 25th September.
Each year the FIP organization announces a different theme so that associations and individuals in the pharmaceutical industry can put together campaigns or local projects to showcase the good work they do in helping to improve the health of people around the world. This includes giving lectures, holding exhibitions, or organizing an activity day for adults and children to demonstrate the ways how pharmacy can help them. The theme for 2016 is ‘Pharmacists: Caring for You’ to reflect how the role of pharmacists has progressed from medicine supplier to that of care providers.
The theme Pharmacists: Caring for You not only reflect the important role of pharmacists in providing care to the public but also to highlight the emotional connection they have with their patients. The role of pharmacists over the years has shifted from the provider of medicines to being an integrated member of the health care team directly involved in patient care. Pharmacists play an important role in the outcome of pharmacological therapies and at the end, their effort improves patient’s quality of life.
